More female chefs should be in top kitchens, says Michel Roux Jr

As four men battle it out in this year's 'MasterChef: the Professionals' final this week, Michelin starred chef Michel Roux Jr explains how there are not enough female chefs in top kitchens and how the 2013 show is the highest standard yet

There are not enough top female chefs because some kitchens are still ‘stuck in the dark ages’ believing they are still a 'male bastion', according to Michel Roux Jr.

Roux said more needs to be done to help women get into higher positions, mirroring his own two Michelin starred kitchen which is run entirely by females.

The judge on 'MasterChef: The Professionals' defended the programme, which has four male finalists this week, saying there have previusly bene two winners.

Previous female winners said while there are a wealth of talented women chefs, they are too often forced to sacrifice their career or having a family.

“There are still unfortunately some places that are living in the Dark Ages and think the kitchen is a male bastion,” said Roux.
