Welcome to Mama C, a modern Greek restaurant in Old Montreal opening its doors in May 2024, a new concept from the Collection Corner, where tradition meets innovation in every dish. We are currently looking for enthusiastic individuals to join us on our culinary journey. We are looking for a passionate full-time sommelier to join the Corner Collection team, an award-winning collection of boutique hotels, restaurants, and spas that awaken the senses through soul-nourishing experiences. Although our roots go back several decades, Corner Collection is expanding rapidly and is determined to be a global leader in the hospitality and restaurant industry, ensuring that each of our guests has a truly memorable bespoke experience.

As a Sommelier at Mama C's, you will be responsible for selecting exceptional wines that complement our concept, adhere to supplier agreements, and meet customer preferences. Your expertise will be essential in maintaining the integrity and quality of our wine inventory through appropriate storage protocols and regular stock evaluations. Additionally, you will develop and implement innovative strategies to promote our wine cellar and drive sales, collaborating closely with the culinary team to ensure seamless integration with the menu.

 

YOUR CRUCIAL ROLE

 

• Select exceptional wines in line with Mama C's concept, supplier agreements, and customer preferences.

• Implement and maintain appropriate wine storage protocols to preserve the quality, integrity, and appearance of our wine inventory and cellar.

• Regularly assess stock levels and maintain accurate records of wine inventory.

• Develop and implement innovative strategies to promote our wine cellar and boost sales.

• Provide expert advice and recommendations on wine selections, food pairings, and cellar offerings to customers.

• Coordinate with the culinary team to ensure seamless integration of wine selections with the menu.

• Train and educate staff on wine knowledge, service techniques, and cellar operations in the absence of the Sommelier.

• Collaborate with the management team to set pricing strategies and achieve revenue targets.

• Maintain the highest standards of customer service and hospitality, ensuring every guest has a memorable wine experience.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for engaging and educating diverse audiences, as this is a client-facing position.

• Organize tastings and events: Host wine tastings, pairing dinners, and special events to showcase the restaurant's wine offerings and menu.

• Overall, the Sommelier plays a crucial role in defining and contributing to the success of the wine program by providing expert guidance, enhancing the dining experience, and ensuring the quality and profitability of the wine service.

A few words about our inspiring history: Three years after immigrating from Greece, Tony Antonopoulos opened his first restaurant in Old Montreal, "Le Coin", on August 4, 1973. His brother Costa joined him in 1976, and together they built a business that thrived for over 45 years, known until recently as Groupe Antonopoulos. In 2022, Tony entrusted the continuation of his share of the business to his four children: Dina, Anna, Dimitri, and Maria. To honor their father's first restaurant, Corner Collection was born.

·       You have a degree in hospitality from a recognized institution AND/OR have a minimum of one year of experience in a high-volume restaurant or reputable hotel.

·       You are familiar with the operation of a point-of-sale system (POS), an asset.

·       You are able to stand or walk for extended periods.

·       You take pride in maintaining a neat professional appearance in a clean uniform.

·       You are available to work rotating day, evening, or weekend shifts.

·       You can communicate effectively in both French and English to serve our international clientele.
