Description

The  sommelier reports to the director of the restaurant. His role is to coordinate all operations in the dining room of the restaurant and advise customers on the available wine choices. He has an acquaintance and a passion for the winery and participates in the creation of the restaurant's wine list. He collaborates in the supervision of the work of the members of the service team and plays a leading role in the reception and overall customer experience.

 

Essential functions of the job: 

• Advise customers on wine selection and agreements with restaurant dishes;

• Serves wine to customers;

• Meet with suppliers and representatives of wine importers;

• Provide ongoing training on the wines and spirits offered to the service team;

• Participate in the creation of the wine list and the wine cellar inventory;

• Ensure adequate planning of the service according to anticipated traffic;

• Participate in the supervision of staff during the service;

• Provide ongoing communication with the kitchen to ensure the smooth running of the service;

• Help the service;

• Ensuring customer satisfaction during and after the service;

• Manage complaints, if applicable;

• Participate in inventory management;

• Act as head of the establishment in the absence of the director.

• Perform all administrative tasks required

Requirements

Qualifications and skills required: 

• Minimum 5 years experience in a similar position;

• Sommelier training;

• Strong interest in teamwork;

• Developed sense of customer service;

• Leadership and excellent communication skills;

• Autonomy and sense of initiative;

• Flexible availability (days, evenings and weekends);

• Good knowledge of restoration software (Micros and Opentable, asset);

• Management training in catering (asset);

• Bilingual (French and English)
