Workplace: 1187 Princess Street, Kingston, Ontario, Canada, K7M3E1

Status: Permanent, Full-time

Remote: No

Schedule: Monday to Friday (9 am at 5 pm)

Salary: Starting at 50 000$ per year plus benefits

Reporting to the Regional Controller, the Chief accountant is responsible for managing the hotel's accounting, including preparing financial statements, monitoring expenses, managing budgets and financial forecasts, and supervising the hotel's accounting team. He/she must ensure the accuracy of financial information and comply with accounting and tax standards.

 

Job Description:

  • Ensure communication with the payroll and human resources coordinator;
  • Verify accounts payable and expenses and approve checks to be issued;
  • Review negotiated contracts;
  • Verify billing between the hotel and its tenants;
  • Verify the transfer of daily hotel revenue to the books;
  • Verify customer account opening requests and follow up for accounts receivable collection;
  • Prepare TPS and accommodation tax remittances;
  • Make journal entries and document them;
  • Analyze revenue and expense accounts to explain budget variances;
  • Monthly reconcile CDN and US bank accounts as well as all other balance sheet accounts;
  • Develop the annual budget in collaboration with the General Manager and monitor it;
  • Prepare year-end files;
  • Develop and implement procedures adapted to the company based on recommendations from the head office;
  • Prepare required reports.

 

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Membership in the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) association, an asset.
  • Previous experience in accounting and finance, preferably in the hotel industry.
  • Thorough knowledge of current accounting and tax standards.
  • Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively with other hotel departments.
  • Ability to problem solve, make decisions, and work independently.
  • Great attention to detail and ability to manage numbers and data.
  • Proficiency in computer tools, including accounting software and spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of the hotel industry;
  • Accounting software - HOPEM.
