Description

Our client, a leader in the hospitality industry, is looking for a Financial Controller to join their team downtown Montreal!

 

Reporting to the Vice-President of Corporate Accounting and the hotel General Manager of the hotel, this person will support the operations and sales of the hotel.  He (she) will prepare the budgets in collaboration with the managers and will perform the full accounting cycle up to the financial statements within the required deadlines.  Furthermore, he (she) will monitor the expenses and will recommend the implementation of optimal procedures.  He (she) will work closely with the head office, general manager, accounting clerk as well as the department heads.

 

Main responsibilities:

  • Develops and implements proper procedures for the company according to the recommendations of the head office;

  • Reviews accounts payable and expenses and approves the checks to be issued;

  • Reviews the creation of customer account;

  • Reviews negotiated contracts;

  • Reviews bookkeeping of hotel’s daily revenues;

  • Reviews billings between the two entities (hotel and restaurant);

  • Prepares government remittances (GST, QST), accommodation and franchise taxes;

  • Follows-up and tracks group insurance, vacation, advances and CNESST with the payroll department;

  • Reconciles CND and US bank accounts and balance sheet on a monthly basis;

  • Analyzes income and expenses accounts to explain discrepancies;

  • Enters journal entries and documents;

  • Prepares required reports;

  • Prepares year-end files;

  • Prepares annual budget in collaboration with the General Manager and follows-up;

  • Trains and supervises the accounting clerk.

 

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Accounting or other related diploma;

  • 3 years of experience in general accounting related to operations and billings;

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in the hospitality industry;

  • Internal audit experience;

  • Excellent knowledge of accounting software, knowledge of Hopem is an asset;

  • Bilingual (French/English)

 

We are looking for a versatile, flexible and organized Financial Controller who has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  This person must have good analytical skills, demonstrate leadership abilities and be able to work under pressure
